MUSIC & ENTERTAINMENT MEDIA ONLINE CONFERENCE (MEMO!) ANNOUNCEDInternet & Broadband Delivery of Music, Video, Games & New Media The Hot Topics |
| How the entertainment
business and most specifically the music industry are being revolutionised
by the Internet-or the soon to be available broadband delivery by cable,
satellite and enhanced phone technology-will be the hot topics at a major
conference being held in Sydney at the ABC Radio Centre, August 18-19.
The Music & Entertainment Media Online (MEMO!) Conference is sponsored
by Apple Computer Australia and will attract over 500 local and overseas
industry professionals. A sellout is expected.
The producer-IMMEDIA!, which created the sellout National Entertainment Industry Conference held every second year for five events-has sourced top overseas music & film/video speakers at the recent MIDEM music convention in France. It'll also finalise artist & industry experts speakers from New York's Internet & Music Expo early March where producer Phil Tripp will be a featured speaker at that event. Four keynote speakers over the two day MEMO! Conference will join over 40 top experts in a series of eight panels discussing a broad range of topics. The first keynote speaker is Clive Mayhew-Begg, Vice President International for CDNOW who will join a panel of leading Australian online CD etailers and 'bricks & mortar' retailers including John Hazell, CEO of HMV Records; Matthew Darby, CEO of CD Star; Ken Outch, Director of Content for Sanity.com; Victoria Doidge, VP Marketing & Sales for ChaosMusic and Stuart Browne of Noizenet with more to be added. They'll debate the future of online sales of CDs and DVDs as well as how digital downloading of music and video will affect their wired businesses. But that's just the opener... controversy and the issues of delivering digital content will fire up the event. Other panels include 'Beyond MP3 and Free Downloads as Dubious Tap Water-Bring on the Bottled Water of Secure Music on Demand'; 'White Collar, Blue Collar and Black Hat Crime-Fighting Piracy and Unfair Use'; Empowering Artists on the Internet and Exporting Online'; 'Digital Radio and Webcasting-The New Narrowcasters for Music & Film'; 'Doing Deals as a Dot.Com Entity In The Digital New World Order'; 'Digital Rights Management' plus a special session on DVD and the revolution in hard carriers of music, games and visual entertainment and their evolution into online paradigms. Producer Phil Tripp states "The conference will empower & enable all players in the entertainment and music businesses from artists to record labels as well as film, video or TV producers to utilise the Internet and broadband to create new audiences. The incredible speed of change in the music, games, film and broadcast sectors are forcing companies to strategise & cope with the huge magnitude of shifts in the entertainment-driven by online delivery, emerging technologies & new ways of doing business in a digital content world. Australia can be a global leader to drive content. It's our future for music & new media." Details will be continually updated at the MEMO!
