John Watson - Manager silverchair, MD of 'Eleven: a music company' label

John Watson started in the music industry as a teenager working in record stores and playing in indie bands. After moving to Sydney in the mid-1980's he also worked as a freelance music journalist for magazines including "Rolling Stone" before joining Sony Music as A&R Manager in early 1991. In this role John was responsible for signing a wide range of artists including Died Pretty, Troy Cassar Daly and multi-platinum sellers, The Prodigy and Human Nature.

In 1992 John also assumed responsibility for the international marketing of Sony's Australian artists, helping acts such as Midnight Oil and Tina Arena to achieve substantial overseas success. In 1994 he was instrumental in establishing Sony's murmur label and was jointly responsible for signing silverchair to the company before leaving in 1995 to become the group's manager. silverchair subsequently sold more than six million albums throughout the world.

John is currently the Managing Director of his own company - John Watson Management and recently established a new independent label called "Eleven: a music company". The label's first commercial release by JWM client paulmac has already been a top 30 hit.
