Educated at Brisbane Grammar School, John entered the music business in 1975 as
Promotions Manager, CBS Records Queensland branch, working with fellow
Queenslander Denis Handlin, the current Chairman of ARIA & Chairman/CEO of Sony
Music Entertainment Australia.
In 1976 John was promoted to the position of Artist Development & Relations
Manager at CBS in Sydney and was instrumental in the success of local artists
Dragon and Air Supply and International Artists such as Billy Joel, Meatloaf,
Santana, Chicago, Boz Scaggs and Pink Floyd.
In subsequent years, John held various positions including International Product
Manager, National Publicity Manager, National Field Promotions Manager, State
Manager Queensland, State Manager Western Australia, Director of Advertising and
Director of Marketing.
Satisfying a desire to work in sports marketing, John accepted a key marketing
role in the 1995 launch of Super League as Head of Corporate Development, where
he was instrumental in securing sponsorship alliances with Telstra, Sony
Playstation, Visa, Nike and Gatorade.
John returned to Sony Music as Managing Director of the Epic label in January
1998 before being promoted to Manager Director, Columbia & Epic, his current
position.
John has over 23 years experience in the music industry.
