AustralAsian Music Industry Directory

Frequently Asked Questions

When & how often is the Directory published?
March 1, 2007 & then September 1, 2007. Twice a year.

Who gets free Directories & who pays for them?
Each listing that returns their listing form for that edition gets their choice of a free print edition or free six month online subscription to that edition. Additional copies are $50.00 by post in Australia (inc GST & shipping) A$50 by airbag to New Zealand addresses; US$60 by airbag anywhere else in the world.

How do I get a free listing & what are the deadlines?
If you qualify for a free listing section (see qualifications at the start of each section) we must have your listing form or submission in to our office no later than Nov 15 for the March edition or May 15 for the September edition. Late fees apply for any listings received after the free listing deadline (see below).

What is the penalty if my listing is sent in late?
A late listing fee of $77 is payable for those listings received between May 16-June 15 or Nov 16-Dec 15. In order to adhere to strict publication dates, our free listing deadlines are not flexible. Late fee payment must accompany listing or it will be rejected. Listings received after that date will not be processed or returned. We waive this rule only for paid display advertisers of 1/8 page or more.

How many free listings can I get?
One free listing per company or individual (see below for extra listing policy) which fall within the qualification guidelines at the beginning of each listing section. Free listings are at the sole discretion of the publisher, subject to qualifications, deadlines & available space.

What is the extra listings policy?
Those companies or individuals which request or submit a free listing within any category may only have a duplicate listing in any other category upon payment of a $77-$110 Extra Listing Fee (depending on section's cost for extra listing) with their second listing form or submission (which also entitles the duplicate listing to receive a free copy or online subscription). If a submitter already has a single free listing, we consider a request for a duplicate listing to be if:

"The second listing is under the same name; or based at the same address; or has the same phone or fax numbers or email; or it shares the same directors or employees with another listed company at the same address." So if you have one business that does management and you want a record label listing, it would be $110 extra for the latter.

We do not encourage frivolous extra listings nor do we process extra listings if submitted without payment.

What details does a free listing contain?
The free information we allow in a listing is generally: name of company, street address, postal address, phone, fax, mobile phone numbers, email addresses & URL plus no more than three key staff members. Descriptions of the company's business activities beyond contact details and names costs extra depending on the section in which the listing appears.

What if I want to add more information?
In most cases (see the beginning of each section's Qualification Details or ask for a Listing Submission Form for a specific section) we will allow 25 words additional beyond the names, numbers and address details for $77 extra. Beyond the first 25 words for $77, we charge $7 per word for each additional word. Payment must accompany form and must be mailed, not faxed in. Payment can be by cheque or credit card (Visa, Mastercard only).

What information can't I include in a listing?
We're happy to consider your extra professional information submitted, but reserve the right to edit superlatives (biggest, best, oldest, most reliable, cheapest, etc.,) unsubstantiated claims (industry leaders, industry approved, dominant, leading, etc.) or just stupid titles & editorial. This is the industry's professional directory with standards of submission, not a joke or a touting medium. We use factual & modest information, not boasts or silly stuff.

Are there any paid listing categories?
95% of our listings are free with only a few 'personal service' categories attracting a paid listing fee of only $77 and these allow an additional 25 words free beyond contact address and numbers plus three staff names, with a free directory sent on publication. The paid listing sections are: Freelance Journalists, Graphic, Print & Web Design, Event Management, Producers & Engineers, Photographers, Music Video Producers & Directors, Production & Tour Management, Consultants & Special Services, Publicity & Promotion Services or our Enhanced, Boxed Special Artist Listings and Songwriter/Composer/Lyricist/Arranger Listings.

When do I have to pay for a listing or pay extra money?
1. You want extra or duplicate listing.
2. You ask to be in a paid category.
3. You missed free listing deadline.
4. You request extra information in your listing beyond the allowable free amount in the category.

Do display advertisers get free listings?

Are listings automatically renewed for the following issue?
No!
We only print updated and correct information from existing listings and returned by deadline. If we do not receive the form back by deadlines, we delete the listing and no free directory is sent out. We don't have a ouija board nor do we hire clairvoyants...and do not renew listings unless we know they have been corrected so as to save our subscribers from outdated or dead contacts. We do however follow up those that missed the free listing deadline with a late listing reminder that requires a $77 late fee to be listed. Again, if they don't respond, their listings are automatically deleted.

Are there any companies or people banned from being listed?
Yes. If someone or a company is involved in what we perceive to be fraudulent practices, we will not allow them or any of their companies to be listed. In ten years, that has added up to about 50 or so people or companies who will never see their names in here. These include failed promoters, illicit CD or tape manufacturers, bogus agents, dishonest managers, crooked compilation producers, etc, but we can't name them here or we'd be sued! About the only other way to get on our bad side is to be rude to my staff or dick us around on the money situation.

Anything else I should know about how the directory is done?
We have several staff, each one of whom is responsible for their own sections to research and edit. You'll find them helpful, knowledgeable and generally cheerful. As publisher, I have ultimate say over any policy or listing, but rest assured they are empowered to make their own decisions within the policies and procedures we all adhere to.
We hope we've answered your questions and hope you use this directory wisely and continuously for your music industry needs. And thanks for investing in us. We'd love your comments and suggestions to make it better for the future.
